About The PositionThe salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $22.43 to $23.29 per hour, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Who We AreThe Montgomery County Board of Elections (BOE) conducts elections as required by law and conducts all Federal, State, and County elections. In the anticipation of the 2026 Gubernatorial Election cycle, the Board of Elections is seeking to fill 9 Election Aide II positions (temporary intermittent position) that encompass several responsibilities.
Who We Are Looking ForThe Board of Elections is currently recruiting for the position of Election Aide II, within the department, to work flexible hours. Some assignments will require over 40 hours per week, while others may involve less than 40 hours and be of short duration. The work may require prolonged periods of sitting and/or physical activity such as lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
Certain positions may require working overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The Board of Elections seeks candidates who can maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, and confidential work environment. Candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
Note:
The Election Aide II position is classified as an intermittent temporary role and is not eligible for health benefits. However, under the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act and Montgomery County’s Earned Sick and Safe Leave Law, individuals in this position are eligible to accrue and use sick and safe leave.
Election Aide II employees are responsible for a variety of tasks, including processing applications, managing mail-in ballot receipt and organization, providing customer service, performing data processing, as well as supporting recruitment, training, and IT functions related to the election. Job assignments and terms of employment may vary from several weeks to several months.
- Voter Registration: processing and proofing electronic and paper applications in accordance with Maryland election law; duties include sorting incoming mail, scanning, processing documents to and from other Local Boards of Elections, verifying petition signatures, researching, and processing provisional ballots; tracking and processing mail, filing documents, and answering telephones; ideal candidate is detail‑oriented with high data volumes and strong customer service.
- Training: preparing and conducting sessions to train election judges for Early Voting and/or Election Day duties; delivering engaging training on voting processes, equipment, chain of custody, and customer service expectations; set-up/removal of training equipment; may require training at off-site locations.
- Vote by Mail: verification, processing, and integrity of vote-by-mail process; ballot preparation for mailing and in-person, telephone, and email customer service; creating spreadsheets, data entry, receiving, sorting, inventorying, and organizing mail-in ballots; digitizing/scanning/uploading documents; assisting with Early Voting and Election Day provisional ballots processing and canvass; candidate will be detail-oriented and comply with procedures.
- Election System Information & IT Warehouse Support and IT Clerical Assistant: preparing, testing, deploying, and maintaining election equipment; staging deployment to voting sites; IT help desk support during Early Voting and Election Day; travel to various locations; load-in/load-out of equipment; physical labor up to 50 lbs; reading and following technical procedures; problem-solving under time pressure; IT Clerical Assistant provides technical, clerical, and administrative support, including records, paperwork, data verification, and help desk duties.
