Senior Accountant

A growing construction-focused organization is seeking a Senior Accountant with strong experience in construction accounting to join its team in Gaithersburg, MD. This is a fully onsite position requiring a hands‑on accounting professional who can manage daily and month‑end financial operations, support AR and payroll oversight, and contribute to process improvements.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of accounting experience, including direct exposure to construction job cost accounting, and will bring a proactive, detail‑oriented approach to financial management.

• Prepare month‑end journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and variance reports
• Maintain general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts, including posting journal entries
• Perform monthly cash entries and bank reconciliations
• Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the trial balance
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports
• Conduct variance analysis comparing actual results to budget
• Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation tracking
• Record inventory adjustments based on physical inventory counts
• Assist with oversight of Accounts Receivable to ensure accurate posting and reporting
• Assist with payroll oversight and related journal entries
• Prepare monthly journal entries related to employee benefit plans
• Compile documentation in support of audits
• Review and support Sales & Use Tax compliance
• Assist in reviewing and developing accounting policies and procedures
• Analyze job cost reports and prepare custom financial reports as directed
• Support special projects assigned by Controller or CFO

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including direct construction industry experience
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial processes, and internal controls
• Experience with job cost accounting and construction financial reporting
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to prepare reconciliations and financial analyses
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States
