APU seeks employees who desire to contribute to our thriving culture by cultivating community through professional interactions, demonstrating a posture of lifelong learning, and modeling Christ-like character. Working together, employees at APU commit to establishing a university atmosphere that is edifying to God and one another.

Sending out Christian workers to participate in God’s redemptive ministry is at the heart of the mission of Azusa Pacific University. The Center for Vocational Ministry (CVM) at APU is continuing to develop programs for equipping faculty, staff, and ministry leaders for ministering in the world. We are looking for a gifted preacher and shepherd to equip our university community and ministry partners.

We are seeking an accomplished preacher and pastor to serve as our Preacher in Residence, with the ability to inspire, mobilize, and encourage our Azusa Pacific community as well as external ministry partners. The preacher must have the ability to connect with Christians of different ages from a variety of Christian backgrounds. We seek a leader with a proven history of ministering to and mobilizing the church, as well as a demonstrated commitment to the spiritual formation of ministry leaders.

This position presents an exciting opportunity to equip the next generation of church leaders as well as assist in the development of resources that will have a regional and national impact. The role aligns with the goal of the Center for Vocational Ministry: to be a leader in equipping churches and Christian non-profits through formational resources, research, and relationships.

This one-year position is funded by the Compelling Preaching Initiative at APU’s Center for Vocational Ministry. The Preacher-In-Residence will be a representative of Azusa Pacific University in various public and university preaching and teaching settings. Opportunities will be given to preach and teach at large events of Azusa Pacific University - key gatherings for equipping and encouraging faculty, staff, and students toward spiritual transformation.

The successful candidate will serve as an external Ambassador of Azusa Pacific University and the Center for Vocational Ministry.

Additionally, the Preacher-in-Residence will engage in a variety of activities within the Center for Vocational Ministry, including but not limited to programs of the Compelling Preaching Initiative, such as preaching at conferences, leading preaching cohorts, and supporting the launch of a Preaching Certificate program. The position will offer opportunities to mentor rising and experienced leaders, from undergraduate students to current vocational ministry leaders.

A successful candidate will contribute thought leadership to various initiatives in the Center for Vocational Ministry as well as the broader university. This role will contribute to establishing Azusa Pacific University as a leader in equipping future and current church leaders.
This position is fully grant-funded.

This is a 10-month position working with APU’s Center for Vocational Ministry for approximately  hours over the course of the academic year. The successful candidate will need to maintain a regular in-person presence on the Azusa, California campus for the duration of this appointment. They will be expected to participate in key events and predetermined campus experiences. Some work with students, faculty, and CVM community may be conducted via Zoom.

The starting date of this position is August 16, 2025.
