Grocery Clerk

Overview

This role supports the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and upholding quality assurance standards. • Help customers discover items and answer product questions.
• Inform customers of food specials and recommend products to meet their needs.
• Check product quality and freshness; review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action.
• Provide customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery items as ordered; label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads; adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers; keep temperature logs.
• Gain and apply knowledge of products sold within the department; respond to questions and suggestions.
• Create an environment where customers feel welcome and appreciated by answering product questions store-wide.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
• Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify management of repairs.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Work cooperatively in a fast-paced or high-stress environment and manage conflict constructively.
• Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information; follow directions and seek assistance as needed.
• Provide support and assistance to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults as required.
• Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
