OverviewNurse Manager (NM) functions as the first-line administrative nursing leader with 24-hour accountability for care delivery including budget of a nursing unit(s). The NM must be able to navigate the EHR, clinically assist with patient care, and function in the charge role when indicated. The NM coordinates, elevates, and resolves problems and conflicts as they occur. With support from Charge Nurses and Educators, the NM directly supervises the clinical nursing and ancillary nursing personnel assigned to a unit or care delivery site.
The NM ensures the effective daily operation of the nursing unit on a 24-7 basis by monitoring activities necessary to provide high quality patient care, including staffing, equipment, supplies and services. The NM coordinates nursing staff activities and is accountable for the unit’s effective and efficient operation, including stat orders, treatments, plans of care, and clinical pathways carried out consistently.
The NM has knowledge of nursing policies, procedures, and regulations and exercises sound, independent judgment in applying leadership and clinical principles to situations. The NM relies on experience and collaboration to plan and reach goals. The NM assists in advancing the professional practice environment by communicating NGHS nursing strategic direction and focusing on activities that support the nursing strategic direction.
The NM provides nursing involvement support for VOICE and the NDNQI quality teams, including coaching team members in their professional participation. The NM assists with overall clinical governance and other projects as assigned.
- Licensure or other certifications:
Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia.
Required:
Professional certification in either a clinical or leadership specialty within two (2) years of hire. - Educational Requirements:
A degree in Nursing (BSN or MSN). - Minimum Experience:
Three (3) to five (5) years as an RN, preferably in an acute care setting. One (1) year direct supervision of healthcare delivery if in combination with leadership experience outside of nursing (e.g. second career). - Other:
Professional organization membership within one month of hire into the role.
