The Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist is responsible for assisting physicians and nurses during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures. This role involves operating specialized imaging equipment, preparing patients for procedures, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. The technologist plays a critical role in supporting the care of patients with cardiovascular conditions in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, including positioning and monitoring vital signs
- Operate and maintain imaging and monitoring equipment during procedures
- Assist physicians with diagnostic and interventional procedures such as angioplasty, stent placement, and electrophysiology studies
- Administer contrast media under physician supervision and monitor patient responses
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure compliance with infection control standards
- Document patient information, procedure details, and equipment usage accurately
- Provide post-procedure support, including patient monitoring and equipment clean-up
- Collaborate with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or related field
- Current licensure or registration as a Radiologic Technologist or Cardiovascular Technologist (depending on state requirements)
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a cardiac cath lab or related clinical setting
- Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and procedures
- Ability to work in high-stress, emergency situations with critical patients
- Prior experience with interventional cardiology procedures
- Familiarity with electrophysiology studies and peripheral vascular procedures
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) – preferred
- ARRT certification (if applicable) – preferred
