Perform direct resident care under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel and promote a compassionate physical and psychosocial environment for residents.
Essential Job Functions- Provide personal care (grooming, bathing, dressing, oral care, etc.) for residents daily and as needed.
- Change bed linens and maintain grooming supplies in resident rooms on a regular basis.
- Ambulate and transfer residents using appropriate assistive devices and proper body mechanics.
- Record resident vital signs, weights and measurements, intake and output, food consumption, and other information as assigned.
- Routinely turn and position residents as necessary.
- Observe residents closely and report changes in condition to the Charge Nurse.
- Respect residents' ability to make choices and support these within caregiving constraints.
- Participate in data collection for the MDS and care plan; provide input to nurses for plan of care development.
- Ensure adequate hydration for residents at regular intervals according to individual needs.
- Prepare residents for meals and transport to dining room; assist residents who cannot feed themselves.
- Keep accurate records of food intake and output as directed.
- Assist nursing staff with basics of aseptic and sterile techniques to prevent infection.
- Monitor environment including ventilation, temperature, lighting, and noise for resident comfort.
- Take vital signs and other measurements as directed.
- Promptly answer call lights and respond to resident needs.
- Use proper body mechanics when lifting or transporting residents.
- Assist in orientation and training of other staff, as requested.
- Attend in-service education programs to meet facility requirements.
- Be familiar with Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Fire Drill and Evacuation Procedures and how to use them.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility records/information.
- Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse, and protect personal property.
- Adhere to attendance standards and maintain housekeeping standards in assigned duty areas.
- Other duties as directed by the supervisor or administrator.
- Current Nursing Assistant Certification from state.
- CPR Certification.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Fast-paced environment with interruptions; ability to make quick decisions.
- Involves interactions with residents, staff, visitors, and agencies under various conditions.
- May work beyond normal hours, on weekends, or in temporarily different positions when necessary.
- May be subject to call-back during emergencies (e.g., severe weather, evacuation).
- Exposure to infectious waste or diseases and to hazardous chemicals.
- Assist in evacuation of residents during emergencies.
- Function independently with flexibility, integrity, and ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and support agencies.
- Meet general health requirements, including possible medical and physical examination.
- Physical demands include lifting, bending, reaching, grasping, and sustained standing/walking; may require lifting up to 75 lbs and assisting with transfers.
Exposure to blood or body fluids may occur in the course of duties; standard precautions apply.
