About the Role:
Job Summary: The Lead Technologist is responsible for the ongoing assessment of test systems and for ensuring timely and accurate testing in the clinical area to which they are assigned. They are also responsible for training and supervising other staff technologists and technicians. Clinical areas may include Blood Bank, Hematology, Microbiology, Specimen Processing, and Chemistry. The Lead Technologist functions as an assistant to the Laboratory Section Supervisor and performs duties in their absence.
The role requires initiative, excellent communication skills, and proactive problem-solving. Collaboration with Lab Section Supervisor, Lab Administration, and Pathologists is essential. The position involves caring for patients across all age groups and adhering to population-specific guidelines and safety protocols.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Licensure or certifications: ASCP, NCA, or AMT, meeting Georgia state requirements.
- Educational Requirements:
Bachelors Degree with Medical Technology training from an accredited school and successful completion of approved examination (ASCP, NCA, AAB, HEW) or Bachelor's from an accredited institution. Technologists with technician qualifications may be temporarily classified as technicians for up to 18 months. - Minimum Experience:
Technical expertise in Medical Technology.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Additional certifications or licensure preferred.
- Experience:
Five (5) years in medical technology (excluding internship and education).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Technical expertise in Medical Technology.
- Good clinical practices and leadership skills.
- Strong performance and communication skills.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Assess test systems for accuracy, work independently, and perform equipment calibration and troubleshooting.
- Review results, perform quality control, and ensure timely testing with minimal discrepancies.
- Document management for accreditation, review results, and assist in inspections.
- Maintain excellent customer service, confidentiality, and effective communication with healthcare providers.
- Adhere to the code of conduct, participate in shift assignments, and ensure compliance with billing, coding, and infection control policies.
Physical Demands:
- Lift up to 50 lbs frequently, carry up to 20 lbs, and perform tasks requiring good vision and mobility.
