Summary: Under the general supervision of the Principal.
Position: Social Studies Teacher
Responsibilities- Develops students' knowledge and understanding of world cultures and cultural evolution; develops skills in research of social orders; and develops an understanding of geographical, historical, cultural and political factors that influence the development of world societies, socio-economic systems and political systems, and their inter-relationship and interdependence.
- Fosters an understanding and appreciation of world cultures, languages, racial, ethnic and religious groups, and political systems.
- Develops curriculum and instructional materials aligned with school district goals and objectives; creates unit plans around historical problems and manages instructional time effectively.
- Teaches knowledge of social studies, incorporating history, geography, economics, political science, systems of government, education, responsible citizenship, and humanities.
- Develops students' understanding of diverse groups and socio-economic factors and their impact on human rights and freedom.
- Promotes critical analysis of current issues and cross-references to contemporary matters; fosters problem-solving and thoughtful exchange of ideas.
- Establishes and maintains a system for accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting as required by district procedures and laws; conducts ongoing assessment and adjusts instruction to meet individual needs.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Coordinates with other professional staff and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Requisition s appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies and maintains inventory records.
- Certification/License: Georgia State Certification as a Social Studies Teacher;
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. - Education: Bachelors from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment;
Masters Degree preferred. - Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred; ESOL Endorsement preferred.
- Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Knowledge of current teaching methods and differentiated instruction; knowledge of world history and related sub-topics; ability to use computer systems and software; strong communication and organizational abilities; ability to engage in self-evaluation and professional growth.
- Equipment: Uses standard office equipment (PC, printer, copy and fax machines, telephone).
- Travel: Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Physical and Mental Demands: Works in standard office and school building environments.
