Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students’ skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics; to develop students’ skills and abilities in scientific methods and problem‑solving, and an understanding of the application of science to practical problems.
Essential Functions- Teach knowledge and skills in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics, in accordance with district curriculum.
- Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
- Create a safe and conducive classroom environment that supports individualized and small group instruction.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into sequential learning experiences that challenge students and maximize instructional time.
- Design learning activities that demonstrate the application of science to everyday life, including research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.
- Instruct students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instruction to meet individual needs, including students with special needs.
- Maintain familiarity with district and Georgia State standardized tests to adapt curriculum for maximum achievement.
- Pursue continuous professional development through seminars, workshops, meetings, or research.
- Maintain accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct conforms to school policies and maintain standards of behavior essential for a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinate with professional staff, especially within the grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select, requisition, and inventory appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
- Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of a wide range of science subject areas, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, physics, and related fields.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others in the course of work.
- Work in standard office and school building environments.
The job requires a variety of physical demands including some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The role is performed 90 % sitting, 5 % walking, and 5 % standing in a clean and healthy environment.

Certification/License- State certification as a Science Teacher or equivalent for the position.
- Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
- ESOL endorsement preferred.
