Elementary Classroom Teacher (Pre-K through 5th Grade) – Gainesville Exploration Academy,  School Year

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of Principal, the Elementary Classroom Teacher (K-5) facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementation of district-approved curriculum, documentation of teaching and student progress, and creation of a safe and optimal learning environment. The role provides feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Essential Functions
  • Develops and administers the school elementary curriculum consistent with district goals.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, translating plans into learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small‑group instruction as needed.
  • Instructs students in responsible citizenship and subject matters outlined in applicable laws and administrative regulations.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
  • Maintains a system for accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance per district procedures and laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Enforces school conduct standards and maintains student behavior conducive to a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Coordinates with other elementary staff members to evaluate and assess curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies, and maintains inventory records.
  • Supervises students during out‑of‑classroom activities, including those involving school transportation.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators per Superintendent directions.

Equipment & Travel

Uses standard office equipment (computer, printer, copier, fax, telephone). Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction.
  • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Effective communication with students and parents.
  • Self‑evaluation for performance and professional growth.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with others involved in work.
Physical and Mental Demands

Works in standard office and school building environments. Refer to Summary of Physical, Sensory and Environmental Requirements for essential job duties.

Qualifications Profile
  • Certification/License:
    Georgia Certification as an Elementary Teacher. Grade‑level certification preferred.
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s in Elementary Education or related discipline;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience:

    Successful prior teaching experience for appropriate grade levels is a plus.
