University of Florida Department of Recreational Sports

The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Operations Associates to join our energetic team and move Gators toward lifelong wellbeing. Operations Associates serve the department of Rec Sports by supervising activity at indoor and outdoor facilities, enforcing policies and procedures throughout the recreation centers and field spaces, and overseeing equipment check-out services.

Rec Sports Team Members Responsibilities

  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of Rec Sports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a Rec Sports ambassador.
  • Take ownership of Rec Sports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic.
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding Rec Sports facilities.
  • Enforce Rec Sports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction.
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures.
  • All Rec Sports employees are expected to abide by the Rec Sports Student Staff Code of Conduct process that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors.

Rec Sports Fall Kick-Off 2026:
Tuesday, August 18

Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our Rec Sports team. All Rec Sports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.

Fall Kick-Off is scheduled for August 18, 2026. Please mark your calendars as this is mandatory for all-staff! In addition, please hold your calendars for August 12-18, 2026 for mandatory unit-specific trainings

Unit Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise activity in programmed and non-programmed areas in indoor and outdoor facilities

Enforce policies and procedures throughout the recreation centers and field spaces

Develop a strong baseline of fitness and facility knowledge

Guide patrons in proper use of equipment and spot patrons based on educated judgment

Oversee equipment check-out/ check-in and usage by participants

Maintain an excellent recreation environment by cleaning equipment and various areas of the facility

Track and maintain participation counts throughout the facility

Assist program participants and facility users regularly, on the phone and in-person, with all aspects of the Recreational Sports Program

Make referrals to appropriate Rec Sports unit areas as necessary

Be knowledgeable of all Recreational Sports and University Programs

Respond to all injuries and assist in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures

$14/hour

- First Aid, CPR, AED certification or ability to attain it within first week of employment
- Availability to work nights and weekend hours
- Availability to work 9-12 hours, at minimum, each week
- Successful completion of department training requirements once hired
- Complete and maintain UF online certifications in GET

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
