Job Description:

The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Outdoor Adventures Associates to join our energetic team and move Gators towards lifelong wellbeing! Outdoor Adventures Associates serve the department by working in a team environment to provide excellent customer service through outdoor gear rentals, merchandise sales, and ensuring a superior CORE facility for our users.

Successful candidates will begin work at the beginning of Summer 2026.

Rec Sports Team Member Responsibilities
  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of Rec Sports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a Rec Sports ambassador
  • Take ownership of Rec Sports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding Rec Sports facilities
  • Enforce Rec Sports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures
  • All Rec Sports employees are expected to abide by the Rec Sports Student Staff Code of Conduct that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors

Rec Sports Fall Kick-Off 2026:
Tuesday, August 18

Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our Rec Sports team. All Rec Sports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.

Fall Kick-Off is scheduled for August 18, 2026. Please mark your calendars as this is mandatory for all staff! In addition, please hold your calendars for August 12 - 18, 2026 for mandatory unit-specific trainings.

Unit Specific

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist patrons and participants with rentals and adventure trip registrations in-person and over the phone
  • Perform sales and rental transactions for outdoor gear and merchandise
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the CORE facility and warehouse
  • Assist with preparation and cleaning of adventure trip gear
  • Make appropriate referrals to other departments at UF Rec Sports
  • Clean, maintain, and repair rental gear
  • Manage gear rental reservations, check-ins, and check-outs
  • Regularly communicate with administrative staff
  • Willingness to innovate and develop new systems as CORE expands its scope of offerings

$14/hour

  • Successful completion of departmental training once hired
  • Shadow Shift Requirement:
    New Outdoor Adventures Associates are required to complete at least one shadow shift for new hire training
  • Commitment of approximately 9 hours/week, or a minimum of two shifts per week

  • Successfully complete background check

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.

- Interest in outdoor recreation and campus involvement
