The University of Florida Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Lifeguards to join our energetic team and help move Gators toward lifelong well‑being! The Lifeguard position is open for Campus Pools. Lifeguards will be tasked with overseeing all water‑based activities and ensuring the safety of our members and guests.
Rec Sports Team Members Responsibilities- Develop professional relationships with co‑workers, participants, and guests.
- Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of Rec Sports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere.
- Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a Rec Sports ambassador.
- Take ownership of Rec Sports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic.
- Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding Rec Sports facilities.
- Enforce Rec Sports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction.
- Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre‑ and post‑incident procedures.
- All Rec Sports employees are expected to abide by the Rec Sports Student Staff Code of Conduct process that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform all necessary lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR skills as certified by American Red Cross.
- Monitor the safety of swimmers and aquatic facility users.
- Prevent injuries by eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors.
- Monitor access to the aquatics facility to ensure only valid users and their guests are admitted.
- Enforce rules, regulations, and policies.
- Perform maintenance and cleaning, as needed.
- Monitor water chemistry, as needed.
- Attend mandatory departmental Fall training and all monthly meetings/in‑services.
- Maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Risk Management Administrative Team.

$14.85/hour
- University of Florida student.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or willing to obtain by start date.
- Successfully complete the pre‑employment water test.
- Commit 6‑10 hours per week; may include morning, evenings, and weekends.
- Additional certifications required for merit advancement.
- Complete and maintain UF online certifications in GET

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part‑time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
