Job Description:
The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Group Fitness Instructors to join our energetic team and move Gators towards lifelong wellbeing. Group Fitness Instructors serve the department by instructing classes on our robust weekly schedule, ensuring classes are safe and effective for all fitness levels, and being courteous and helpful to the patrons they assist.

Rec Sports Team Members Responsibilities:
- Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests
- Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of Rec Sports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere
- Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a Rec Sports ambassador
- Take ownership of Rec Sports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
- Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding Rec Sports facilities
- Enforce Rec Sports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
- Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures
- All Rec Sports employees are expected to abide by the Rec Sports Student Staff Code of Conduct that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors
Rec Sports Fall Kick-Off 2026:
Tuesday, August 18
Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our Rec Sports team. All Rec Sports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.
Fall Kick-Off is scheduled for August 18, 2026. Please mark your calendars as this is mandatory for all-staff! In addition, please hold your calendars for August 12-18, 2026 for mandatory unit-specific trainings
Unit Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Keep current in all certifications required
- Arrive to work 15 minutes prior to your class prepared and ready to teach
- Stay 15 minutes after class ends to answer any questions participants may have and to ensure that all equipment is placed in its respective area
- Ensure that your classes are safe and effective for all fitness levels
- Know your scope of practice and act accordingly
- Track registered and standby participant counts
- Be courteous and helpful to all individuals you assist. Please refer participants to either the Program Assistants if you are unsure of related questions or concerns
- Know and enforce all Recreational Sports policies and procedures
- Attend all mandatory monthly meetings and continuing education sessions
- Act and dress professional and responsibly
- Complete peer evaluations each semester
- First responder in emergency situations
- Communicate any problems and/or concerns to your supervisor as soon as possible
Entry-Level: $16.75 per hour | Experienced: $19 per hour
- Certification obtained from a nationally accredited agency, such as ACE, AFAA, and Yoga 200hr
- Preferred
Certifications:
Mat Pilates, Tai Chi, Cycle, Barre, and Zumba
- Resumes and Cover Letters should outline their respective certifications to teach the formats indicated
- First Aid, CPR, AED certification or ability to attain it within first week of employment

* NOTE:
Applications for Group Fitness Instructors should include a copy of all certifications.
This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
