Job Description:

The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Trip Leaders to join our energetic team and move Gators towards lifelong wellbeing! Trip Leaders serve the department by working in a team environment to plan and facilitate outdoor excursions and ensure safe and effective adventures for participants.

Successful candidates will begin work at the beginning of Summer 2026.

Rec Sports Team Members Responsibilities
  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of Rec Sports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a Rec Sports ambassador.
  • Take ownership of Rec Sports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic.
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding Rec Sports facilities.
  • Enforce Rec Sports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction.
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures.
  • All Rec Sports employees are expected to abide by the Rec Sports Student Staff Code of Conduct that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors.
Rec Sports Fall Kick-Off 2026:
Tuesday, August 18
  • Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our Rec Sports team. All Rec Sports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.
  • Fall Kick-Off is scheduled for August 18, 2026. Please mark your calendars as this is mandatory for all-staff! In addition, please hold your calendars for August 17-21, 2026 for mandatory unit-specific trainings

Job Responsibilities
  • Technical skills (backcountry cooking, campsite set-up, orienteering, and wilderness medicine)
  • Interpersonal skills (group dynamics, leadership styles, interpersonal communication, and facilitation)
  • Judgement skills (creative problem solving and group risk management)
  • Instructional skills (effectively relaying learning outcomes in an experiential manner)
Assistant Guide

Job Responsibilities
  • Drive University of Florida vehicles to transport adventure trip participants
  • Responsible for all duties associated with trip planning, preparation, breakdown and debrief
  • Responsible or trip risk management
  • Responsible for all documentation of incidents and accidents
  • Purchase food and fuel for adventure trips and maintain fiscal responsibility
  • Attend all staff meetings and Rec Sports trainings

$14/hour

  • Must maintain Wilderness First Responder and CPR/AED certifications
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must maintain skills and fitness outside of normal work duties
  • Complete and maintain UF online certifications in GET

    102, GET

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
