Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Reefer Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Gainesville, Florida.

At Ryder, a Reefer Technician will diagnose, overhaul, adjust and repair all series of truck and trailer equipment while focusing on all refrigeration units such as Carrier.

Compensation & Schedule
  • Hourly Pay: $33.50 per hour
  • Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained (up to $700)
  • Quarterly Bonus:
    Up to $500 every quarter – four times per year
  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday, weekends OFF
  • Hours:

    First Shift 6:45 am – 3:15 pm

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including
    • Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
    • Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems (required)
  • Three (3) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
  • All other certifications required by location (required)
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑ and medium‑duty equipment
  • Knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder drug test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Responsibilities
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including standard and preventive maintenance
  • Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers when applicable
  • Complete complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision
  • Replace defective components as instructed
  • Work unsupervised on most tasks
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaints once assigned a task
  • Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation
  • Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
  • Demonstrate ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents
  • Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)
  • SBTIII trained within 180 days (SBT
    220)
  • Complete two of the OEM on‑line diagnostic scan‑tool software courses as required by location fleet mix (predominant OEM of fleet completed within 365 days)
