Diesel Mechanic Reefer Technician

Overview

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Reefer Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Gainesville, Florida.

At Ryder, a Reefer Technician will diagnose, overhaul, adjust and repair all series of truck and trailer equipment while focusing on all refrigeration units such as Carrier.

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance.
• Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable.
• Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision.
• Replaces defective components as instructed and works unsupervised on most tasks.
• Performs facility maintenance duties and interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of the complaint.
• Uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation; follows all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT).
• Acts as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels and demonstrates ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
• Performs additional support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support.
• Completes OEM On-Line diagnostic tool coursework as required by location fleet mix (completed within specified timelines).

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or technical certification preferred; post-secondary degree or technical certifications advantageous.
• Basic tools required.
• Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance and basic diagnostics (AC and electrical systems).
• Three or more years of relevant work experience preferred.
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred; other location-specific certifications as required by location.
• Must have minimum 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment.
• Knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
• This position requires driving Ryder vehicles; must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire, pass Ryder Drug Test, pass a DOT physical, pass a Ryder road test, and pass a Ryder Background and Motor Vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification) for the last 3 years.
