- Collaborate with a supervising faculty member to coordinate, implement, and manage research and extension projects in soil science.
- Work independently, following general instruction and modifying procedures as needed.
- Supervise OPS workers, agricultural technicians, and students.
- Perform laboratory tasks such as plant tissue and soil sample collection, drying, sieving, grinding, weighing, and application of fertilizers, salt, and acid reagents.
- Use equipment including LiCor gas exchange units, leaf area meters, sap test meters, soil infiltrometers, Ksat and Hyprop unsaturated conductivity equipment, and other analytic instruments.
- Manage and maintain the greenhouse, laboratory, analytic equipment, and other assigned facilities, including instrument calibration records and laboratory inventories.
- Maintain lab records in accordance with UF Chemical Safety Program and relevant laws/regulations concerning storage, handling, and application of restricted-use chemicals.
- Ensure supervised employees adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Drive an automatic transmission pickup truck as required.
- Doctoral, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field, with corresponding years of experience (PhD any; MA with ≥1 year; BA with ≥3 years).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with MS Teams and creating multimedia content is desirable.
- Data entry into spreadsheets and use of shared database platforms.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, greenhouse management, and strong computer skills.
- Physical fitness to perform fieldwork (aug, lifting up to 50 lbs). Ability to work outdoors in hot/inclement weather; approximately 30% outdoor time.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- MS or BS degree in Ag/plant or soil and water sciences.
- Attention to detail in data recording and transfer.
- Experience with stable isotope 15N for experimental purposes.
$50,000.00 commensurate with education and experience.
Physical & Mental RequirementsThis position requires the ability to work in a laboratory and outdoors in hot, inclement weather. Approximately 30% of time is spent outdoors in field plots or traveling to field plots. Mental fitness is required for sample preparation and operating analytic equipment, as well as troubleshooting in the lab and field when unsupervised.
