Job Description:The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, is seeking a full‑time faculty position as a Research Scientist for the Department of Geological Sciences. Responsibilities include overseeing the management and operations of several multi‑user instruments in the Department that measure elemental and isotopic compositions of Earth, planetary, and archaeological materials. The primary responsibilities include operation, calibration, maintenance, oversight, and training for:
- Zeiss EVO MA10 SEM equipped with an Oxford Aztec EDS
- Rigaku XRF spectrometer
- Rigaku XRD
- Isotop
X NGX noble gas mass spectrometer for Ar/Ar analyses
Additional responsibilities include serving as the environmental health and safety coordinator for the Department and overseeing the mineral separation facility. The position will also participate in research, co‑mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and contribute to a course in Instrumental Methods for the Department.
Required Qualifications:Position requires a Ph.D (or equivalent) in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geosciences, Geophysics, Engineering or a closely related field, and two (2) years of hands‑on experience with at least one of the following instruments: a Zeiss EVO MA10 SEM equipped with an Oxford Aztec EDS, a Rigaku XRF spectrometer, a Rigaku XRD, and an Isotop
X NGX noble gas mass spectrometer for Ar/Ar analyses. Position also requires a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot instrumentation.
