This Opportunity

WSPhas a permanent employment opportunity for aLead Macroinvertebrate Taxonomistin Florida. The successful candidate will join our water service line team working on marine and freshwater macroinvertebrate samples. The candidate will have ten (10) plus years experience in taxonomic identification.

The successful candidate will work within the water service line group under the supervision of the Water Science group lead. Primary responsibility will be to support the taxonomic laboratory located in Gainesville, Florida, with processing of macroinvertebrate samples. Responsibilities will involve the following:

  • Perform taxonomic identification of freshwater and marine invertebrates
  • Complete quality assurance and quality control measures
  • Complete data entry in a SQL relational database
  • Perform calculations for biodiversity indices for reporting
  • Work with staff on project tasks in a team environment
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior staff
  • Work on proposal writing and business development
  • Project management of taxonomy projects
  • Strong commitment to company's "Beyond Zero" safety program; follow company safety standards, site safety standards and maintain safe workplace practices.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • The position will require the successful candidate to have a solid technical and/or academic background. Experience with in marine and freshwater macroinvertebrates from Florida is preferred. Project management experience is preferred, but not required.

  • Key requirements include:

  • Master Degree in Biology, Ecology or related discipline
  • Experience with some or all of the following:
    • benthic macroinvertebrate taxonomy
    • zooplankton, phytoplankton, and/or periphyton
    • aquatic habitat assessment and sampling techniques
    • macroinvertebrate history and habitat requirements,
  • Experience with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Standard Operation Procedures for Macroinvertebrate laboratory processing.
  • Proficiency in using the Suite of MS Office products
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; proven ability to prepare reports and proposals
  • The position is located in the Gainesville, FL office
