Job No. 537662
Work Type. Full Time
Location. Main Campus (Gainesville, FL)
- Lead design, deployment, and recovery of a compact multi‑station seismic array across the beach‑dune transition; manage instrumentation, power, and data logistics.
- Build data pipelines for continuous and campaign‑style recordings; perform time‑series and spectral analyses.
- Integrate seismic signals with tides, water‑level anomalies, and wave forcing; evaluate controls of sediment properties, vegetation, and water‑table position on energy transmission.
- Co‑develop and apply process‑based numerical models of dune morphological change informed by collected datasets.
- Coordinate field campaigns; interface with park/permit authorities as needed.
- Mentor students; lead manuscripts and conference presentations; contribute to follow‑on proposals (e.g., continuous monitoring concepts).
- PhD in coastal/nearshore processes, geophysics/seismology, civil/coastal engineering, geomorphology, or a related field (by start date).
- Demonstrated expertise in field data collection and quantitative time‑series analysis.
- Coding experience for data analysis/modeling; a clear scientific writing record.
- Experience with broadband seismometers and portable data loggers (or analogous geophysical sensors) and continuous monitoring workflows.
- Background in UAS/drone mapping.
- Numerical modeling skills.
- Familiarity with coastal water‑level/wave datasets and tide‑removal/aggregation strategies.
- Comfort working on dynamic beaches/dunes; ability to lift and carry 25‑50 lb; willingness to work around tides and weather windows.
- Cover letter (≤2 pages) describing fit, relevant experience, earliest start date, and career goals.
- Complete curriculum vitae.
