- Oversees activities of the school clinic.
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Administers first aid to students and staff, within the scope of nursing practice, as needed for injuries and illness; determines if emergency services are required and makes referrals as needed.
- Evaluates students with illnesses/health conditions to determine if they can stay at school or need to leave, and communicates with the parent when necessary.
- Monitors, coordinates, administers, and documents daily scheduled medication in accordance with the medication procedures at school.
- Works with parents, local physicians, and staff to meet the individual medical needs of students.
- Provides or assists in medical care for students with chronic health conditions during school hours; obtains necessary information from parents and physicians to implement the plan of care for these students during the school day.
- Reports health needs and concerns to school administration and promotes good health practices within the entire school.
- Provides in‑services to staff for special procedures/health related concerns.
- Assists school staff with immunization records and other required mandated health forms/screenings.
- Performs vision and hearing screenings (training provided).
- Maintains clinic supply inventory; submits clinic orders for supplies to the Health Services Coordinator at least twice a year (May and December).
- Maintains monthly checks of school Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
- Reports to and works closely with the Health Services Coordinator, providing necessary information regarding the health and wellbeing of students and staff; also reports to the school principal.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Works well with administration, teachers, and staff, and possesses effective written and verbal communication skills; must be able to use computer technology.
- Maintains communication with professional organizations related to the field.
- Promotes wellness and disease prevention.
- Serves as a medical education resource for students, staff, and parents.
- Follows guidelines and school policies of Gainesville City Schools and adheres to the scope of practice under the Georgia Nurse Practice Act; performs other clinic duties as assigned.

- Basic literacy skills
Routine physical activities associated with a typical office setting. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Vision, hearing, and verbal communication are essential functions of this position.
Additional RequirementsEmployees are expected to attend all required meetings as approved by the supervisor and to adhere to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission’s Code of Ethics for Educators, all Gainesville City Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, school system procedures, and all other applicable professional performance criteria. Maintenance of a criminal history check is required for all employees.
