Overview
This is a Fire Rescue position requiring dual Firefighter/EMT certification by the date specified. If currently enrolled in EMT School or Fire College, proof of enrollment must be submitted with the application. A written letter from the school or instructor is acceptable and must contain the start and end date of the program. The candidate must be dual certified Firefighter/EMT by job offer date of June 1, 2026.
Compensation: Firefighter/EMT: $48,426.00 Annually;
Rescue Driver Incentive $1,872.00 Annually

Application ProcessThe candidate assessment is accessible at the following link and must be taken no later than Friday, March 6, 2026. The assessment is 15-45 minutes and self-administered, measuring reasoning, problem-solving skills, and 25 personality traits to determine best fit for employment in this position.
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or equivalent. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and physical examination, and successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.

Current Certifications to Submit with Online Application: State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance;
State of Florida EMT Certification;
State of Florida Paramedic Certification;
American Heart Association BLS CPR & AED Card or BLS for Healthcare Provider;
American Heart Association ACLS Card or ALS for Healthcare Provider (Red Cross acceptable).
Upon appointment, the following must be completed and maintained as a condition of employment:
- Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC): complete the department-certified 16-hour EVOC course within the first month of employment.
- Ongoing Certification: continued certification is necessary to maintain employment.
- Successful completion of a 12-month probationary period.
This is responsible technical work in the Fire Rescue Services Department, protecting life and property by performing firefighting, driving apparatus, providing emergency medical aid, hazardous materials response, and fire prevention duties. Responsibilities include safely transporting crew and equipment, providing immediate care to the critically ill or injured, transporting patients to medical facilities, and performing firefighter duties including firefighting, containment, and extinguishment as required.
Work is performed under standard operating procedures with independent judgment; reports to a Lieutenant or Rescue Lieutenant as applicable.
The Alachua County Fire Rescue pay structure includes classification levels defined by the step plan. This is an emergency essential classification; employees may be required to work during disasters or emergencies.
