Job SummaryProvide pastoral care, support patients throughout the hospital journey, respond to code blues, offer spiritual guidance during end‑of‑life situations, and coordinate with clinical teams to enhance healing environments.
Responsibilities- Provide pastoral care and support in assigned areas to patients and their loved ones upon referral by assessing spiritual needs and assisting them in coping with hospitalization and illness.
- Respond to all code blues on assigned units.
- Help patients understand advance directive choices as a team member.
- Provide pastoral care and guidance to patients at end‑of‑life and their loved ones; assist nursing with release of body paperwork/post‑mortem.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed in assigned areas.
- Act as a spirituality resource to other team members they cover.
- Support hospital staff as needed.
- Coordinate care with the patient’s community clergy when required.
- Perform other related functions as assigned by the Chaplain Manager.
- Adhere to all hospital standards, policies, and procedures and to the chaplain’s certifying body’s code of ethics.
- Serve as a substitute on the after‑hours on‑call team when the on‑call chaplain is unavailable.
- Master of Divinity or Master’s‑level theological degree from an accredited seminary or divinity institution.
- Board certification required from an accredited certifying body (or in progress, to be obtained within the first year of hire).
- Four units of clinical pastoral education (or in progress, to be obtained within the first year of hire).
- Ordination or commission by a recognized faith group.
- Endorsement to HCA North Florida Hospital by a recognized denominational body.
- Compassionate and accessible demeanor.
- Active listening with a non‑anxious presence.
- Interpersonal and relational skills necessary to comfort distressed patients, families, and staff.
- Excellent communication skills for supporting patients, families, and staff.
- Problem‑solving abilities to assess spiritual needs and help find appropriate resolution.
- Proficiency in language and grammar for documenting visits in the electronic medical record.
- Ability to meet productivity expectations.
- Commitment to promoting a healing environment that enhances spiritual and emotional health.
- Teamwork participation with department members, including unit and on‑call coverage.
- Capability to provide and arrange sacraments/rituals from many faith traditions.
- Flexibility to work days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends; on‑call required.
