Job Summary and Qualifications

Respiratory Therapy Supervisor - Full-time, DAYS

The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor provides both clinical and operational leadership for the Respiratory Care Department during assigned shifts. This role is responsible for delivering advanced respiratory care to routine and critically ill patients while supervising, supporting, and guiding respiratory therapy staff. The Supervisor ensures high-quality patient care, effective staffing, productivity, and compliance with departmental and hospital standards.

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform routine and critical care respiratory therapy procedures, including mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support.
  • Supervise Respiratory Therapists on the assigned shift, including making patient and staff assignments.
  • Provide strong leadership, coaching, and guidance to team members; address performance concerns through feedback, coaching, and corrective action as needed.
  • Make timely, sound clinical and operational decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Monitor quality of care through staff rounding, documentation audits, and direct observation.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment focused on patient safety and service excellence.
  • Ensure appropriate utilization of staffing, equipment, and departmental resources to maintain productivity and efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing leaders, patients, families, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Document employee discussions, performance issues, and recommendations in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and provide constructive suggestions to leadership to enhance patient care, departmental performance, and hospital operations.
