Responsibilities- Time sheet and EAR entry within the required time frame
- Subject to emergency duty in the event of a natural disaster
- Completion of all mandatory or assigned trainings within the required time frame
- Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone or in person at the WIC clinic at scheduled intervals determined by the local WIC program
- May counsel women in the WIC clinic
- Receives a caseload of WIC clients and makes routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned
- Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including telling them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and helping mothers prevent and handle common breastfeeding concerns
- Is available outside usual 8 to 5 working hours to new mothers who are having breastfeeding problems
- Respects each client by keeping her information strictly confidential
- Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with WIC clients
- Works in outlying clinics as assigned
- Refers mothers, according to clinic-established protocols, to the WIC nutritionist or breastfeeding coordinator, lactation consultant, the mother’s physician or nurse, public health programs in the community, and social service agencies
- Attends and assists with breastfeeding classes and breastfeeding support group as assigned
- Attends & participates in monthly staff meetings, in-service trainings, other staff development activities and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate
- Accurately completes all forms such as leave & attendance records, etc. by required deadlines 90% of the time
- Reads assigned books and materials on breastfeeding that are provided by the supervisor
- May assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling through special projects and duties as assigned
- Other duties assigned by the supervisor
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to successfully assist mothers with breastfeeding skills
- Ability to work with individuals and groups with different levels of education, knowledge, and cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge of computer programs and applications
- Ability to utilize computer programs and applications
- Ability to problem solve
- Minimum
- High School Diploma or GED - Exclusively breastfed at least one child for six months
- Valid Driver’s License
