The Cardiac & Vascular Institute of Gainesville, FL seeks to be the provider of choice for cardiovascular care to the people of North Central Florida by combining state‑of‑the‑art comprehensive cardiac services and care with innovative technology. We are seeking a PEAT/SPECT Nuclear Technologist in the Nuclear Services department.

Job Summary

Perform PET and SPECT procedures, including administering contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals. Provide professional and compassionate patient care, while ensuring patient safety, comfort and confidentiality.

Location

Gainesville with some travel to Lake City.

FLSA Status

Non‑exempt;
Full‑time.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of current nuclear license requirements, laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Follow Radiation Safety Standards established by the NRC, State of Florida and TCAVI.
  • Operate SPECT and PET imaging equipment and associated computer systems to obtain quality diagnostic images.
  • Prepare and inject radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Perform daily and weekly quality control checks on SPECT and PET imaging equipment and hot lab equipment; record results accurately and inform the Lead Technologist and/or Nuclear Lab Manager of any discrepancies.
  • Perform correct procedures for delivery, acceptance, administration, disposal and shipment of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of stress testing protocols and EKG interpretation.
  • Prepare patient procedure paperwork prior to SPECT and PET testing and ensure proper order, diagnosis, and all documentation is obtained prior to exam.
  • Perform patient assessment, preparation and procedures according to established nuclear lab written protocols.
  • Clean, disinfect and maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials.
  • Maintain equipment by properly cleaning and performing scheduled quality control checks; bring any discrepancies to the Manager’s attention.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Current State of Florida license.
  • Registered or Registry eligible - ARRT(N) or NMTCB-CNMT.
  • BLS and ACLS certification.
Education

Graduate of an AMA approved school for Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Experience

One‑year experience preferred.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of nuclear cardiology principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of quality care standards for nuclear cardiology procedures.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety, OSHA Universal Protocols, and blood‑borne pathogen exposure protocols. Knowledge of operating PC and accessing applicable programs.
Skills
  • Skilled in obtaining high‑quality diagnostic studies that meet physician expectations. Skill in data entry and obtaining information via computer.
  • Skilled in operating SPECT, PET imaging and treadmill equipment. Skilled in use of life‑saving defibrillator equipment.
Abilities
  • Ability to recognize and respond to various EKG rhythms.
  • Ability to effectively care for patients and families across all points of the age continuum including physiological care, psychosocial care, education, safety and appropriate criteria.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with inter‑departmental personnel.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi‑task and meet deadlines.
Environmental / Working Conditions

Combination of office, exam and other clinical settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic and nuclear medicine environment.

Physical / Mental Demands

Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires some bending, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, grasping and sitting in the normal office environment. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.

Requires irregular hours and occasional stressful conditions.
