On-Call Lead Environmental Engineer
WSP in the U.S. is seeking an On-Call Lead Environmental Engineer for our White Springs, FL location. Additional locations include Jacksonville, FL;
Gainesville, FL; and Tampa, FL.

Job Responsibilities- Provide technical support and direction for grassing establishment and maintenance for mine closure projects.
- Lead and direct grassing projects, applying expertise in land reclamation, erosion control, and soil analysis to optimize vegetation cover and meet regulatory success criteria.
- Manage the gopher tortoise relocation program, including field surveys, permitting, long‑term site maintenance, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Support the wildlife management program, providing technical and operation support for threatened and endangered species surveys, habitat restoration, and biodiversity enhancement.
- Perform professional environmental engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, and pollution sources to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Conduct environmental site assessments.
- Interact with subcontractors and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Develop action plans for medium to large‑scale pollution, corrosion, hazardous waste, and environmental control projects.
- Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future‑ready solutions for clients.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 7+ years of post‑education experience in environmental engineering, natural resource management, and compliance monitoring.
- Demonstrated success in environmental management and land reclamation projects for mining and industrial operations.
- Experience with gopher tortoise surveys, relocation, and long‑term recipient site management.
- Strong technical knowledge of NPDES stormwater and wastewater programs.
- Expertise in constructed wetlands, pollinator habitat restoration, and lake restoration.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Ability to develop and implement compliance strategies for complex environmental projects.
- Engineer license required.
- Proficient with engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to environmental and project work‑related issues.
- Proficiency with reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances and mitigation programs.
- Well‑defined specific knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others and expressing ideas professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience.
- Demonstrated high level of self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, adhering to QA/QC.
- Well‑developed critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis, and arriving at the most effective, and logical solution.
