Job Description

The University of Florida's Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience (FIBER) seeks a Research Coordinator I to support major FIBER initiatives, e.g. Gator Corps (a national service program focused on disaster resilience) and Gulf South Studio (GSS) (a design and education program supporting Gulf community resilience). The position works closely with FIBER leadership on program development, and operational oversight across FIBER initiatives, ensuring compliance, fiscal integrity, and strategic alignment with UF's community-engaged research mission.

Responsibilities

Internal Organization and Fiscal Support:

  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of FIBER and FIBER-involved programs, including program planning, reporting, and evaluation.
  • Coordinates research/project team meetings.
  • Assists with fiscal processes and procedures to ensure compliance with UF, state, and federal policies.
  • Maintains program data, performance metrics, and reporting systems to assess progress and outcomes.
  • Provides guidance to program staff, Ameri Corps members, student employees, and volunteers; coordinates recruitment, onboarding, and training.

External Program Liaison:

  • Builds and sustains partnerships with UF units, local governments, community organizations, funders and industry, maintaining a database of community contacts for FIBER programs.
  • Assists faculty with proposal development and sustainability-related activities by coordinating materials, timelines, and required inputs.

Academic Program Development:

  • Assists faculty with implementation of education, research, or service programs (e.g., the Master of Resilient Urban Design Program).
  • Supports program development, accreditation, and administrative approval processes.
  • Supports logistical coordination of studios, field trips, workshops, outreach, and other program activities/events.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by FIBER leadership.
Compensation

Expected Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree in public administration, education, business management; an allied design field (architecture, planning, construction management, landscape architecture); sustainability studies or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

Education: Master's degree in community development, allied design field, education, management, or environmental sciences.

  • Two or more years of experience managing programs, preferably within Ameri Corps, higher education, or non-profit sectors.
  • Demonstrated fiscal management and grant compliance experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and interpersonal skills.
