The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida invites applications for a full‑time, nine‑month, non‑tenure‑accruing position at the rank of Lecturer, commencing August 16, 2026. The role focuses on teaching and research related to legal decision making across pre‑trial, trial, and post‑trial contexts, and supporting undergraduate Criminology & Law program activities.

Responsibilities
  • Teach three (3) Law & Society courses each semester, with preference for courses on legal decision making (e.g., prosecutorial decision making, plea bargaining, juries, courts, sentencing, probation, parole). Also teach key Criminology courses such as Criminological Theory and Research Methods in Criminology.
  • Educate in multiple modalities (face‑to‑face, online, hybrid) and accommodate a range of class sizes.
  • Advising of undergraduate students and participation in research collaboration with undergraduates.
  • Contribute to campus‑ and college‑wide initiatives such as UF Quest and the Beyond
    120 program to enhance student educational experience.
  • Engage in departmental and university service activities, including curriculum development and committee work.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Criminology or Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a relevant social science field by date of hire. A Juris Doctor (J.D.) alone does not qualify.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in face‑to‑face and/or online formats.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching multiple Law & Society courses in the undergraduate Criminology & Law curriculum.
  • Experience teaching upper‑division specialty courses in Law & Society.
  • Proficiency teaching various class sizes with multiple teaching modalities and instructional technologies.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate education, including advising and undergraduate research collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with a passion for teaching and learning.
