Overview
We are located in Gainesville, Florida, home of the University of Florida and the affiliated UF Health Shands Hospital, an elite teaching hospital. The model of a teaching hospital for ministry deeply resonates with our culture and mission to send Servants of Christ into their vocations.
Pastoral residents will experience the life and ministry of a pastor. They will learn to shepherd the flock to the Good Shepherd, who alone can bind their wounds and bring them home. Our rector has a passion to train pastors for the work of ministry. He has trained up three pastoral residents who were sent out into ministry, and two of these went on to be rectors.
He also takes ordinands with him on pastoral visits. He has continued in a coaching capacity with a former pastoral resident. These are a natural part of his ministry to raise up the next generation of pastors.
- Meet weekly with the rector for mentoring, support, and coaching.
- Meet monthly with assisting priests for mentoring in pastoral care and pastoral theology.
- Actively participate in the monthly preaching cohort – a monthly gathering with instruction on best practices in preaching, and practice with a group of peers.
- Be fully integrated into the staff team. Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and collaborate with other staff members for parish-wide events. Fully participate in staff rhythms (weekly Morning Prayer on Tuesdays, quarterly staff socials, bi-annual staff retreats, and annual staff Epiphany party).
- Learn what it means to serve on a ministry team with highly committed staff.
- Attend monthly Vestry meetings, bi-annual lay leadership training, bi-annual diocesan clergy retreats, and annual diocesan Synod.
- During the two-year tenure, attend at least one round of membership classes, one eucharistic visitation ministry training, and one safeguarding training.
