Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Artificial Intelligence for Quantum Physics

Job No: 538029

Work Type: Full Time

Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL)

Categories: Education/Training/Instructional Design, Physical/Mathematical Sciences

Department:  - LS-PHYSICS-GENERAL

Job Description:

The Department of Physics has an opening for a full-time, tenured-track nine-month faculty position in artificial intelligence for quantum physics at the Assistant, Associate, or Full professor level, to begin August 16, 2026. As part of a campus-wide faculty hiring initiative in artificial intelligence (AI), we seek highly qualified candidates from all areas of AI-related quantum condensed matter physics and quantum information sciences, with emphasis on AI-guided quantum materials discovery, AI-related approaches to strongly correlated phases of matter, and AI-informed design of quantum devices.

The successful candidate with deep expertise in quantum physics should have demonstrated extraordinary experience in developing, implementing and/or applying AI algorithms on modern computational platforms, and will have access to the UF Hi Per Gator , the fastest higher education supercomputer in the United States for higher education (TOP
500 October 2025).

The University of Florida has dramatically expanded its investment in AI-related research in recent years. This search is part of UF's initiative in Artificial Intelligence for Quantum Science, with parallel faculty searches in the Chemistry and Electrical and Computer Engineering Departments. UF's Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute brings together preeminent researchers to explore contemporary application areas across the university, with UF experts developing the tools and technologies that support and complement these studies.

UF has a large and active condensed matter theory group concentrating on problems of topological matter, superconductivity, correlated electrons, and transport theory. The successful candidate will also benefit through association with the Quantum Theory Project (QTP), a multi-disciplinary institute (Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Computer and Information Sciences) focusing on theory, modeling, and computation of complex, novel molecular and materials systems.

Expected Salary: The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in physics or a closely related field.
Preferred
  • Relevant postdoctoral research experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, while establishing a well-recognized research program, is essential.
Special Instructions To Applicants

Applications must include: (1) a cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae with full publication list, (3) a research statement, (4) a statement of teaching philosophy, and (5) at least three confidential letters of recommendation. A statement of the broader impacts of the candidate's research and professional activities is invited but not required. Reference providers will only be notified of their upload link once an application is submitted in full, so early completion of an application is highly recommended.

To ensure full consideration, applications must be submitted by January 5, 2026. For more information, please contact Prof. Peter Hirschfeld (aiq.edu).
