Academic Advisor I/II
- Assist in development and implementation of programs to enhance success and retention of admitted engineering students.
- Provide advisement, counseling, and coaching of first-year engineering students.
- Support students in selecting appropriate engineering major and resources to ensure retention throughout tenure.
- Meet each student during Advanced Registration to lift holds and ensure adherence to tracking requirements.
- Design printed materials, web pages, and engaging learning activities related to academic, professional, and personal development.
- Handle inquiries and correspondence from current and prospective students and direct them to resources in HWCOE and on campus for internship and job placement.
- Coordinate activities and engage students in engineering summer transition programs, state college partnership programs, and other Undergraduate Student Affairs programs.
- Support student success and retention by providing tools and resources needed for academic and professional success.
- Guide advisees toward engagement in student organizations and work with Engineering Director of Student Development to guide first-year students to appropriate Engineering student organizations.
- Represent the college and university professionally at all times.
- Participate in Preview experience improvements for first-year students and families.
- Develop strong working relationships with departmental advisors and facilitate communication between students and departmental advisors.
- Engage in EUAC, UAC, and other UF advising community participation.
- Pursue professional development opportunities.
- Participate in the development of Student Learning Outcomes and benchmarks to improve advising effectiveness.
- Report advising assessment results and compile and report data related to enrollment, retention, etc.
Academic Advisor I starting at $47,000 and Academic Advisor II starting at $51,000.
Required Qualifications- Level I:
Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related academic field OR Bachelor’s degree with one year of relevant experience. - Level II:
Master’s degree and one year of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience.
- Experience presenting to large groups preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in advising and counseling undergraduate students, especially freshman level, preferred.
- Experience developing and maintaining electronic databases preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of UF regulations and procedures to facilitate recruitment.
- Judgment and confidentiality.
- Independent self-starter, willingness to work in a team.
