Job Description:

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), University of Florida (UF), Gainesville, Florida, invites applications for a clinical‑track, full‑time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Food Animal Reproduction and Medicine Service (FARMS; (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).). The CVM is the fifth‑ranked veterinary program in the US. It is part of an academic health center consisting of six health‑related colleges and is allied with the academic animal science programs of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), all housed on a single contiguous campus.

This position is focused on clinical, teaching, and extension activities, with an emphasis in small ruminant production medicine. The successful candidate will join a team of four clinicians in FARMS, as well as a wider team of faculty serving food animal instructional, clinical, extension, and research needs at the CVM. The majority of effort (~75%) will be directed towards the provision of on‑farm reproductive, medical, and surgical services to our dairy cattle, beef cattle, and small ruminant clients, while training professional students, residents and interns.

Clients include privately owned herds as well as the UF farm units (). Although the current caseload is robust, opportunities to grow or broaden the existing client base exists. The appointee will participate in a shared after‑hours duty roster with other FARMS faculty. The primary teaching effort will be the clinical instruction of DVM students during their 2‑week FARMS rotations throughout the year, where students receive on‑farm and classroom training in basic clinical skills.

Elective rotations provide opportunity for more specialized training, with the goal of producing new graduates that are ready to practice in their chosen area of food animal production medicine. Didactic responsibilities will include coordination of the 1‑credit small ruminant production medicine elective course, as well as lectures and laboratory teaching in relevant areas across the curriculum. The appointee will also provide extension activities (~20%) in support of the expanding Florida small ruminant industry ().

Clinical track faculty are also expected to participate in scholarly activities and collaborative research. There are excellent opportunities to collaborate with research faculty who have established research programs both at the CVM and IFAS. All CVM faculty are expected to be involved in professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicants’ qualifications and experience.
