Overview

Assistant Professor in Arts in Health. Full-time, 9 month, on-campus tenure accruing faculty position.

Location:

UF Main Campus, Gainesville, FL. Salary: $90,000 annual with a comprehensive benefits package. Date of Expected Hire:
August 16, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit, teach, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in arts in health.
  • Maintain an active national and international externally funded research and creative activity profile.
  • Participate in shared governance and service to the Center, College, University, and the Arts in Health field.
  • Teach courses in person, asynchronously, or in hybrid formats. Examples for undergraduates include:
    Introduction to Arts in Medicine in a Global Context, Music and Health, Dance in Medicine, Visual Arts in Medicine, Arts in Medicine Practicum, and Music in Medicine Capstone. Examples for graduates include:
    Research and Evaluation in Arts in Medicine, Arts in Medicine Advanced Professional Seminar, and Arts in Medicine Capstone Proposal. Engage in CAM’s Research Primer with University College London as appropriate.
  • Engage in research and creative activity in areas such as arts in health, arts in public health, medical and health humanities, arts, health, and AI, or related fields.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (or ABD).
  • Potential for national or international level research, aligned with UF tenure/promotion criteria.
  • Record of success in securing or applying for external funding; demonstrated grant writing ability.
  • Three (3) years of post-secondary teaching and student mentorship experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate academic work that fosters curiosity, respect, open discourse, and inclusive environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of teaching and mentorship beyond graduate assistantship.
  • Track record of national or international research impact.
  • Demonstrated success in securing and managing funding.
  • Emphasis on Music or Visual Arts in Medicine.
  • Experience in student recruitment and outreach; cross-disciplinary curricula.

The Center for Arts in Medicine (CAM) advances research, education, and practice in arts in health. The College of the Arts comprises three schools (Art + Art History, Music, Theatre + Dance) and CAM, with additional centers and programs. UF is committed to equal opportunity employment.
