Job Summary

The North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System consists of two medical centers, three large multi‑specialty outpatient clinics and eight small community‑based primary care outpatient clinics.

The Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville is a tertiary care facility, identified as the most complex VA health care system, that is also an active teaching hospital, with an extensive array of specialty services. It combines a full range of patient care services with state‑of‑the‑art technology that is enhanced and supported through education and research. We have a strong and meaningful affiliation with the University of Florida College of Medicine and are connected both physically and functionally to the University.

We train over 2,000 residents, interns, and students each year. Other affiliations are in place with Florida State University, Valdosta State University, Santa Fe Community College, and Lake City Community College. Through sharing agreements, there is collaboration in the areas of radiation therapy, professional radiology services, sleep lab, electron microscopy, and cardiac catheterization.

Major Duties
  • The North Florida/South Georgia Gainesville VA Healthcare System's Dental Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Dentist (Oral Surgery). Our ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. The Dentist provides quality patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals.

    The incumbent will perform specific duties within his/her approved scope of practice. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    Be experienced and competent in all phases of OMS including but not limited to dentoalveolar surgery and complex dental extractions, treatment of orofacial infections, treatment of orofacial trauma, preprosthetic surgery, placement of osseointegrated implants, diagnostic procedures consistent with the practice of OMS, surgical treatment of oral and maxillofacial pathosis, and grafting procedures including harvesting of graft material consistent with the practice of OMS.

    Must be proficient in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and post‑treatment care in all the above areas. Must be trained and competent in providing IV moderate sedation and be certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Must be able to manage medically complex patients, including inpatients, and to perform a history and physical. Must be able to work collegially with other dentists and physicians, and should possess the skills, both interpersonal and professional, to work with residents in OMS, other dental specialties and General Practice Dental Residents.

    Assignment includes advanced understanding and use of the computerized record system. Develop and supervise a rotation program of University affiliate students, residents and VA Dental Residents with the objective to improve the efficiency of operations and allowing each Resident to have a fair opportunity for professional advancement. Preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases, injuries and malformation of the teeth, jaws and the oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures.
