POSITION SUMMARY

Works under the general direction and guidance of the QA Supervisor. The Quality/Lab Technician is responsible for specific activities, as described below, relative to the laboratories.

HOURS & SCHEDULE

Sunday – Thursday, 8am–5pm

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safety: Understand the safety risks associated with the job; comply with all safety rules, procedures, and work practices; report all safety incidents; read and understand the Safety, Health and Environmental Policy.
  • Environmental: Understand the aspects of the job that impact the environment; comply with all environmental rules, procedures, and work practices; report all environmental incidents; read and understand the Safety, Health and Environmental Policy.
  • Quality: Follow recipes and deviations at all times. Unauthorized deviations are strictly forbidden; comply with all FDA rules, procedures, and work practices; follow all Nestlé and GMP procedures; maintain confidential information on recipes; report all deviations from the recipe.
  • Operations: Responsible for accurately and efficiently preparing all media to be used in the micro lab; maintain inventories of all in-house prepared media used for microbiological analyses; maintain an accurate inventory of media bases and other lab supplies and notify the Supervisor of shortages in time to reorder; responsible for picking up finished product samples from the hi-rise, returning samples to the hi-rise after testing, and maintaining adequate room in the Micro Lab freezer;

    perform routine cleaning of lab equipment and areas as directed; complete daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual equipment checks; autoclave items requiring sterility and maintain autoclave records; on an as-needed basis, assist the Microbiologist or Specialist with microbiological analysis and data recording; perform chemical testing on incoming goods; obtain and perform quality tests on milk storage tanks, STOVEX storage tanks, and blend vats for fat acidity, solids, odor, and taste;

    input data into SAP; work safely and maintain a clean, orderly work environment; perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in chemistry, biology, general science, or related field preferred
  • Preferably 1–3 years manufacturing QA/QC and/or laboratory experience in food industry
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments; precise, accurate, and well-organized
  • Ability to perform in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Strong mathematical (basic statistical) skills, problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Proficiency with computer systems, spreadsheets (Microsoft Office), and mainframe systems with custom applications
