Summary:
The Roll Off Driver is responsible for safely operating a collection truck and providing prompt, courteous and complete waste removal services for customers. The driver must ensure the vehicle meets the Company’s safety standards, adhere to all state and federal regulations, and complete daily vehicle condition reports to address any defects in a timely manner.
- Perform complete pre‑ and post‑operation inspection of the vehicle to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order.
- Report any safety issues on the standard reports.
- Safely operate a heavy truck along the designated route and to the disposal site; read the route sheet, follow the map, and service each customer as identified.
- Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate the compactor, and dispose of collected material at the facility.
- Courteously interact with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner.
- Identify unsatisfactory waste containers, tag containers per departmental procedures, and monitor waste for unacceptable materials.
- Clean the area around any accidental waste spill, adhering to safety standards and policies.
- Continuously monitor the vehicle’s condition to minimize downtime; clean waste from the packer blade and truck body where appropriate on each disposal trip.
- Complete required route/productivity sheets, Vehicle Condition Reports, and other reports as required.
- Maintain adherence to required productivity standards to ensure all customers are serviced efficiently.
- Provide good customer service skills, time‑management, and follow‑through ability to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Follow and comply with all safety policies; promote the Company’s safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement.
- Two years of prior experience driving heavy commercial trucks.
- Excellent reading and writing skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to multi‑task and attend to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Great attention to detail.
- Light lifting (50‑100 pounds). Work in a shop environment.
- Warehouse/shop environment.
