The DOT Sign Installer is responsible for installing signs on state highways and other roadways, working either independently or as part of a sign installation control crew. This role includes setting up and maintaining safe work zones as required to ensure the safety of both the crew and the public.
Essential Functions- Install, remove, and maintain DOT roadway signs, posts, and related hardware.
- Ensure all installations meet DOT, MUTCD, and company safety standards.
- Assemble and install sign posts using a jackhammer and other necessary tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, site plans, and installation specifications to ensure accurate installation.
- Operate hand and power tools, jack hammers, drills, and basic construction equipment.
- Drive the sign installation vehicle with a trailer to and from project sites and operate safely on work sites.
- Load, transport, and unload signs, posts, and materials to and from job sites.
- Perform routine inspections and repairs of existing signage.
- Follow all safety protocols, including PPE and traffic control procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe job site at all times.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members.
- Previous experience installing DOT or roadway signage in sign installation or a similar trade is required; certification from ATSSA as a Worksite Traffic Technician or Supervisor is preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet federal DOT requirements; a CDL Class B is preferred.
- Working knowledge of DOT and MUTCD standards.
- Experience using construction tools and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow directions as provided by supervisors and project leads.
- Capability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds to handle materials and equipment.
