Lifeguard

Overview

Position Overview The lifeguard will monitor activities within the swim area and enforce the rules & policies of the City Pool. They will provide care as needed.

Experience, Education, and Training

• Previous experience as a lifeguard is preferred, but will train.

Requirements

• Must pass pre-employment drug testing and submit to periodic drug testing as applicable laws require.
• Must be at least 15 years of age, prefer 16 years of age, and be willing and able to attend any training sessions.
• Must pass the swim test, lifeguard course, and Pre-season training.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours during the afternoon and evenings Monday through Sunday starting May 24th and ending August 10th.
• Must be available to attend pre-season training.
• Must have no felony convictions.

Essential Functions

• Scan and maintain zone protection at all times.
• Try to foresee potential danger and take steps to prevent accidents or injuries.
• Maintain rescue-ready posture at all times.
• Know safety rules and enforce them.
• Follow the facility emergency action plan.
• Use rescue equipment properly to ensure a safe rescue.
• Complete all necessary reports immediately following the conclusion of the incident.
• Perform daily maintenance of the facility, locker rooms, office, and concession stand.
• Maintain a proactive approach to facility safety and report any problems to the manager on duty.
• Maintain positive public relations with visitors by being courteous and polite.

• Above average accessibility of all work sites required for the position.
• Above average exposure to weather and temperature extremes.
• Above average exposure to dust and loud noises.

• Prolonged periods working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Employment is seasonal and requires irregular hours and some holidays.
