Overview

JOB TITLE: Head Volleyball Coach

DEPARTMENT: Athletics

REPORTS TO: Vice President and Director of Athletics

General Description: The Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for promoting William Woods Athletics through the on-court and off-court development of the student athletes within the volleyball program.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Meet University revenue goals by attaining the recruitment goal as assigned by the VP/AD.
  • Promote the value of Varsity and Reserve experiences.
  • Promote and foster a positive student-athlete experience through a respectful communication style.
  • Utilizes motivational techniques that encourage Leadership, Commitment, and Accountability.
  • Have a well-rounded understanding of the sport of volleyball.
  • Be able to communicate and demonstrate the understanding of the sport.
  • Supervise all practices and workouts.
  • Maintain an appropriate, consistent, and fair level of discipline.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner consistent with the values of the university.
  • Actively promote the University.
  • Recruit quality student athletes.
  • Monitor academic progress.
  • Coordinate and provide administration for Reserve Program home events.
  • Coordinate with the athletic department on athletic scheduling.
  • Report statistical information and game results to the WWU Sports Information Director.
  • Works with the Director of Transportation to coordinate team transportation.
  • Coordinate on and off campus Champions of Character activities.
  • Supervise staff, potentially consisting of a full-time assistant and/or graduate assistant.
  • Work in conjunction with Strength and Conditioning Coach and the Athletic Training Staff.
  • Work with the university to foster alumni relations.
  • Responsibly manage a budget and fundraise to cover expenses over and above regular budget provisions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Preferred knowledge of and commitment to NAIA and Heart of America Athletic Conference rules; preferred knowledge of Champions of Character program and commitment to its principles and goals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
Working Conditions
  • Hold a valid driver's license and able/willing to attain a Class E license to aid in team travel.
  • Ability to climb several flights of stairs several times each day.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull up to 20 pounds, and to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to speak and read English fluently.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Work Schedule

This is an exempt, 12-month position requiring 40+ hours per week with day, evening, or weekend work as needed.
