Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Housing-Maintenance team as the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic I. The role requires a positive attitude, active and energetic mindset, and a commitment to inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and building components.
  • Operate, test, install, repair, and maintain mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and water systems.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections, lubrication, filter replacements, and other tasks to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Repair and maintain lock and access control systems and perform skilled maintenance on building interiors and exteriors.
  • Maintain low‑voltage control systems and assist with higher voltage repairs as needed.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation systems to document work, manage preventive maintenance, and track inventory.
  • Use judgment and discretion in performing duties; read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide instruction to unskilled and semi‑skilled assistants and respond to emergency situations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
  • Journey‑level skill in one trade (mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting) with strong skills in related trades.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance and building automation systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong arithmetic skills; ability to estimate cost, time, and materials.
  • Experience operating construction and related equipment with judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and manage inventory.
  • Prior experience in a facilities and systems mechanic role equivalent to a completed apprenticeship program.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance requirements.
