Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Machine Tech II, Auto Paint - 2nd Shift for our Fullerton, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we're the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines.
Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.
We're seeking a mechanical-focused Tech-Machinist II to keep our custom automation line running. The line includes 4 robotic arms, 12 paint stations, multi-camera inspection, and an exit conveyor. The operator will run the system, perform First-Article Inspections (FAI), and isolate mechanical/pneumatic faults-electrical issues are handled by the dedicated maintenance team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate & monitor the dual-arm system, paint stations, and conveyor via the touchscreen interface.
- Conduct First-Article Inspections (FAI) and maintain inspection records.
- Isolate mechanical & pneumatic faults: disassemble/reassemble spray nozzles, inspect valves, check pressure lines, and identify root causes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, routing diagrams, and mechanical drawings to guide maintenance actions.
- Use precision gauges and measurement tools to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on tools, sensors, and cameras.
- Apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) specific to aerospace.
- Collaborate with Engineering, QA, and Production teams to resolve issues and improve processes
- Performs minor adjustments and tool changes.
- Operates one or more machines according to crew size called out on work order.
- Performs typical operations as:
Loading parts/material into bins, hoppers and feeders; removing finished parts; and operating switches, pedals, and levers, uses standard gauges to check part - Observes operations for malfunction or improper processing; corrects or reports them as needed. If the malfunction cannot be corrected, stops the process and contacts supervisor.
- Assist factory supervision and leaders in the training of machine operators.
- Parts to be lifted and/or transported may weigh up to 30 lbs.
- Keeps work area clean, safe and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.
- Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ability to read and use precision gauges (micrometers, calipers, height gauges).
- Willing to learn or have a working knowledge in manufacturing and quality processes and principles
- One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior machining experience
- Able to read/interpret part drawings, use quality tools (calipers, mics, comparators)
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Understand the speeds and feeds pertaining to the machine they are operating (where applicable)
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Must be able to lift/move 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS policies)
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stand and sit.
- Occasionally required to walk and talk or hear.
- Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
