Design Contract Planning Advisor
Apply for the Design Contract Planning Advisor role at Southern California Edison (SCE) and help build a cleaner future for Southern California.
In this role you'll oversee and prepare complex electrical designs for various internal organizations. You'll work with design contract partners, mentor and lead planners and designers, and collaborate across departments to ensure projects meet industry design standards and safety regulations.
Responsibilities- Support the company’s electrical transmission, sub‑transmission, and distribution systems by developing plans, identifying necessary resources, and providing cost estimates and options for construction.
- Coordinate tasks with internal staff to ensure projects are completed correctly and on time while meeting industry design standards and safety regulations.
- Oversee environmental permitting and planning efforts for government, internal, and privately owned infrastructure projects.
- Provide direction and support to the team, managing workload and performance, and offering training when necessary; review design contractor job packets and peer designs.
- Identify system and field risks, evaluating the risk‑reduction benefits of proposed mitigation projects.
- Provide design engineering, cost estimates, and project management activities for overhead and underground transmission, sub‑transmission, and distribution systems from project inception to closing, ensuring compliance with operating dates and budget limits.
- Lead the review of planning and system performance studies for compliance with prevailing standards and criteria.
- Lead environmental planning and permitting work with a multidisciplinary team throughout the life cycle of a project, serving as the single point of contact for operations through construction and supporting maintenance‑related projects.
- Create and maintain integral system circuit mapping for both overhead and underground facilities.
- Perform field inspections to gather data relevant to planning and development review processes and verify compliance with approved plans; manage digital and geospatial records of transmission, sub‑transmission, and distribution assets for accurate reporting.
- Ensure the protection of all physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly access and manage private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
- Five or more years of experience performing electrical utility distribution service planning.
- Possess a valid Class C driver’s license.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
- Experience with CAD‑based design.
- Experience determining scope of work, method of service, and construction methods for overhead and underground facilities.
- Experience communicating with customers, distribution engineering, and other internal organizations to define technical requirements for new client‑driven projects.
- Experience defining the scope and operational requirements for preliminary electrical and civil design.
- Experience preparing distribution work orders or construction plans for projects.
- Experience analyzing and/or designing engineered civil drawings.
- Experience coordinating design activities for all infrastructure replacement programs, including UPC circuits, capacitors, deteriorated structures, cable replacement, switch replacement, and AR replacement programs.
- Experience overseeing the design of major underground projects and new circuits.
- Experience as senior staff, providing leadership, direction, training, and mentoring to staff.
- Experience using interpersonal skills to handle customer relations issues effectively.
- Experience managing multiple and/or sensitive projects, functioning effectively under tight time constraints, shifting priorities, and making critical decisions with minimal supervision.
