The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at CSUF is a leader in the region in researching and analyzing Chicana/o and Latina/o histories, contributions, and experiences. We are dedicated to faculty progress toward tenure. Faculty in the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies have various opportunities to apply for travel, professional development, research, creative activities, and programming funding, including college‑level funding, Ethnic Studies Requirement and the Mellon Foundation Latinx Lab for Storytelling and Social Justice Grant.

The Department of Chicana/o Studies at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position with appointment to begin Fall 2026. We seek a specialist in the interdisciplinary study of Chicanx and Latinx visual culture and immigration.
CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to students in the classroom. The successful candidate will be expected to teach broadly within their department's curriculum, mentor students, and serve on departmental and university‑wide committees. The primary responsibilities of the person in this position will include developing and teaching introductory, core, and Ethnic Studies Requirement courses in the discipline, as well as developing courses in their area(s) of specialization.
This person will also be responsible for producing scholarship and/or equivalent creative activities commensurate with the Department Personal Standards requirements for tenure.
- Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o Studies, or related fields with an interdisciplinary study of visual culture and immigration (ABDs may apply but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the appointment date)
- Demonstrated or potential excellence in undergraduate teaching
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with students from intersecting marginalized social groups
- A strong record of scholarly and/or creative accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment
- Experience in working collaboratively with colleagues and communities
- Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship/creative activity and service
- Ability to teach and build curriculum in lower and upper‑division courses focused on visual culture and immigration with an emphasis in Latinx and Central American Studies
- Evidence of effective use of a variety of instructional methods and learning modalities
- Commitment to co-curricular activities and engagement with campus and regional communities
