Geological Sciences - Part-Time Lecturer Pool

Department of Geological Sciences at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer Pool. We welcome experienced, student-centered faculty to teach in any areas of Geological Sciences. This pool serves as a source for temporary, part‑time teaching assignments on short notice, typically beginning just prior to the start of an academic term.

Position

Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary and of often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on short notice. Remaining appointments are for one semester only with the potential for future assignments based on performance evaluations.

Required Qualifications
  • An advanced degree (Masters, ADB, PhD, or EdD) in Geology or a related field.
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant teaching experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Relevant performance and professional experience.

About the College and the Department

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) is one of eight colleges at CSUF and houses five departments. It offers baccalaureate degrees in all disciplines and master’s degrees in biological science, chemistry, geology, physics, and mathematics. The Department of Geological Sciences offers two undergraduate degrees—B.S. in Geology and B.A. in Earth Science—an M.S. in Geology, and a minor in Geology.

Nearly all courses include high‑impact field and/or lab learning environments with ample opportunities for original student research.

Appointment Date and Academic Calendar

The need for part‑time faculty is greatest during Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term runs from mid‑January to the end of May. Part‑time faculty may also be required during one of the Summer Session segments.

Appointment and Salary

All part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers under the CSU system Collective Bargaining Agreement. Initial appointments are for one semester only.

Classification range: $5,557 – $6,677 per month. Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications is not to exceed $6,221 per month. Compensation is prorated to units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.

Performance Evaluation

Regular performance evaluations of part‑time lecturers are conducted by the department in accordance with the CSU system Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These evaluations determine retention for future teaching assignments. In some instances, syllabi, assignments, and reading material may be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.

Standing on 241 acres at the heart of Southern California, the university was founded in 1957 and has grown to a population of over 41,000 students.
