SCHEDULE:

The Theatre Arts Production & Design – Stagecraft Instructor is responsible for teaching THEA 143 Stagecraft classes held Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:25 AM–1:35 PM during the Spring and Fall semesters. The course consists of 3 lecture units and 3 lab units.

Primary Purpose

Duties and responsibilities are representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify duties and allocations in accordance with operational needs.

The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. Degree award dates not posted on transcript result in application removal. Grade cards are not accepted in lieu of transcripts. All degrees and coursework must be submitted from accredited postsecondary institutions. Evaluations of foreign degrees are required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline AND two years of professional experience
  • Associate degree in any discipline AND six years of professional experience
  • Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area
  • Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience equal to the required degrees and experience as determined by the District Equivalency Committee

Desirable Qualifications
  • Ability to collaborate with and teach students from diverse backgrounds, fostering an inclusive learning environment while imparting the principles of theatre arts with a focus on Production and Design – Stagecraft. Skilled at adapting instructional methods to meet varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both the theoretical and practical application of traditional and contemporary stagecraft principles. Experience integrating a dynamic lecture/laboratory format with project‑based learning to deliver comprehensive instruction across scenic design, construction disciplines, and related areas: theatrical safety, theatre architecture, hardware and fastening systems, scenic materials, scenery construction, scenery movement, structural design and building codes, rigging systems, rope work, scenic finishes, and surface treatments.
  • Understanding of CTE program objectives with a robust background in theatrical video and projections work at a theme park or entertainment venue.
  • LMS experience/training (Canvas).
  • Detailed experience teaching technical theatre courses, especially introductory classes, with innovative teaching practices supporting success and retention of women, students of color and students with disabilities.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or community leaders in programs and initiatives that assist historically underrepresented students to achieve their educational goals.
Salary Range

$1572.67 - $1725.85 per lecture unit rate, $1572.67 - $1725.85 per lab parity unit rate, $1258.16 - $1380.60 per lab unit rate
