Physics - Part-Time Lecturer Pool

Department of Physics

The Department of Physics at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer Pool. We are seeking experienced, well‑organized, student‑centered individuals to teach in the following subject areas.

  • Introductory Physics (Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism, Modern Physics)
  • Upper‑Division Physics (Analytical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Physics)

The positions in this pool are temporary and are often filled just prior to the start of an academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD degree in Physics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level.
  • Relevant physics performance and professional experience.
  • Significant teaching experience working with diverse populations in a collaborative, inclusive environment.

Appointment Date and Academic Calendar

Part‑time faculty are most needed in the Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term runs from late August to mid‑December; the Spring term runs from mid‑January to the end of May. Occasionally part‑time faculty are required for one or more Summer Session segments.

Performance Evaluation

Regular evaluations are made by the department in accordance with the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These reviews determine future retention and may include syllabus, assignment, and reading material review.

Appointment and Salary
  • All appointments are as Lecturers under the CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Initial appointments last one semester only.
  • Classification range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month; anticipated hiring range does not exceed $6,221 per month.
  • Monthly base salaries are prorated to units worked and paid in six monthly payments per full semester. Typical compensation for a three‑unit assignment is $6,608.40 – $7,465.20 per semester.

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) is one of eight colleges at CSUF and includes five departments. It offers baccalaureate degrees in all disciplines and master’s degrees in biological science, chemistry, geology, physics, and mathematics. The Department of Physics offers a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science, featuring small classes, research opportunities, and flexible electives.
