Employment: 100% full‑time, 10 months per year, tenure‑track
Job Description
- Teach lower‑division courses in Ethnic Studies and related areas to a diverse student body.
- Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college, and district committees.
- Engage in co‑curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching special programs that support student success.
- Help formulate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and support the SLO assessment cycle.
- Maintain office and campus hours; attend department and division meetings.
- Stay current with instructional methods, new technologies, and emerging tools pertinent to the field.
- Complete clerical and administrative duties, complying with district, college, and division policies.
- Prepare course materials, employ effective teaching methodologies, and provide informed critical feedback on assignments.
- Develop culturally relevant course content and culturally responsive pedagogy; engage students who are historically underserved.
- Collaborate with staff and students cooperatively.
- Occasional evening/weekend assignments may be required as part of the contract.
Primary Purpose
The duties are representative and may be modified to meet operational needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Valid California teaching credential in community‑college Ethnic Studies (or evidence of equivalent qualification).
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity, with sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of students and staff.
- Experience supporting culturally affirming teaching and learning environments for disproportionately impacted students.
- Knowledge of effective instructional technologies and online pedagogy.
- Experience designing student‑centered, experiential learning environments (e.g., project‑based, service learning).
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in African‑American/Black/Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian‑American Studies, Native American/ American Indian Studies,
or a Master’s in Ethnic Studies. - OR possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
- OR equivalent qualifications demonstrated by related education, training, employment, or professional experience, as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
- Confirmed commitment to diversity, with demonstrated sensitivity to students’ ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, and disability backgrounds.
Desirable Qualifications
- Recent experience teaching Ethnic Studies courses in higher education.
- Master’s degree in Comparative Ethnic Studies.
- Expertise in at least one of:
Critical/Relational Ethnic Studies, Queer Communities of Color, Race and Popular Culture, Social Movements, Restorative and Transformative Justice praxis. - Experience and commitment to mentoring students from disproportionately impacted groups.
- Knowledge of and experience using effective instructional technologies and online modalities.
- Active engagement with the discipline through scholarship, creative work, professional service, or community involvement.
- Understanding of major epistemological frameworks in Ethnic Studies.
Salary Range: $85,541 – $128,379 annually
